What is an EDGE Project?
The EDGE program is specific to Southern Utah University. Students who graduate from Southern Utah University are required to go through the entire EDGE program by completing a project before they graduate. These projects are aimed to give students experience before graduating and entering the workforce. This program also aims to help students develop their "soft skills." Going through the EDGE Program is a five step process, from start to finish: Preparation, Exploration, Commitment, Completion and Reflection. If done correctly, students can gain experience and strengthen their resume before their time is done at Southern Utah University.
What was my EDGE Project?
For my EDGE project I completed a 300 hour internship with the Southwest Utah Public Health Department based in Cedar City, Utah. I gained an overall understanding of Public Health, improved my understanding on why Public Health is an important field, led Health Promotions efforts, gained references from department and division supervisors, and began my career as an advocate for public health. This digital portfolio aims to show of all of the things I accomplished as an intern, although some things that I worked on I cannot post in this portfolio for confidentiality reasons. This internship began on Monday, September 25, 2017 and was completed on May 31, 2018. I completed an average of eight hours per week to meet my intern hour requirement and was able to complete my entire intern checklist, plus more.
